Mobile, Ala. - After a sluggish opening round, Mississippi State bounced back for a stellar second round of golf. Darkness finished the second round early at Magnolia Groves, but not before MSU climbed the leaderboard to claim a tie for fourth place with LSU.

The Bulldogs fired off an opening-round 12-over-par to begin the day from Magnolia Groves, but fought back strong in the darkness-shortened second round with a 1-under-par. MSU is averaging a full seven strokes better in the second round, than in the first round this season. That stat will not be proved wrong at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate. The Bulldogs have the best second round score so far at Magnolia Groves.

"It was a pretty tough day weather-wise due to gusty and swirling winds," Head Coach Clay Homan said. "It was pretty difficult to pull the right club. We are hanging in there, but we still have to finish 22 holes. So we have plenty of work to do."

Junior Joe Sakulpolphaisan shot a 1-over par thru 30 holes on Monday. The JUCO transfer is currently tied with two others at 10 and is poised for yet another Top 25 performance. The Thailand product turned in a 75 for the opening round, but penciled in three birdies on his second-round scorecard to move up the leaderboard.

Fellow junior Chad Ramey nailed five birdies on the day, but was plagued by two double bogeys on Monday in his 30 holes of play. The Fulton, Miss., native is tied at 19 with his 4-over-par.

Sophomore Fletcher Johnson is on pace for his best performance on the young season, as he is tied with Bulldog teammate Ramey at 19th overall. Johnson fired off a 3-over-par in the first round from Mobile, but the Tupelo native came through with a strong second round to give him a 4-over-par thru 31 holes.

Rounding out the Maroon and White scoring on Monday was junior Axel Boasson and senior Robi Calvesbert. Each shot a 5-over-par on Monday to tie for 28th at Mobile Bay.

State had two golfers competing in the Individual tournament on Monday, freshman Ben Woods and junior Barrett Edens both grabbed Top 10 performances through the first round at the Magnolia Grove Falls Golf Course.

Woods fired off a 4-over-par to place ninth for the opening round and Edens shot a 5-over-par to round out the Top 10. The individual tournament will conclude tomorrow with an 18-hole finish. The individual tournament was not shortened on Monday, because they were only scheduled to play two rounds on Monday and Tuesday.

The Mobile Bay tourney will finish round two at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow morning, the individual tournament will also begin at 7:30 a.m. Round three will begin immediately following the conclusion of round two.
