STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State's women's tennis team completed opening-day play at two different tournaments Friday, with players representing MSU at events in Los Angeles and Sarasota, Fla.

Alexandra Perper and Naomi Tran completed their first day of competition in the Jack Kramer Invitational Friday in Los Angeles, both posting one win and one loss each in singles play. Perper kicked off the first round of singles competition with a commanding 6-2, 6-1 win against Cara Brown from the University of San Diego. Tran followed suit notching a 6-7(2), 6-4, 1-0(4) upset over the tournament's No. 5 ranked Anna Depenau also of San Diego.

Unfortunately the victorious streak did not carry into the second round of singles play as Perper fell 6-1, 6-3 to Catherine Harrison of UCLA. Tran also dropped her second round match up against UCLA opponent Courtney Dolehide in a 6-3, 6-3 decision.

In the first round of doubles competition Friday, the Perper and Tran were defeated 8-5 by Miya Jin and Claudia Razzeto of Loyola Marymount University.
