MSU’s Perper/Tran Complete Play In ITA Southern Regionals
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - After reaching the main draw semifinal round of the ITA Southern Regional Indoor Championships, Mississippi State's Alexandra Perper and Naomi Tran completed competition in the tournament Sunday, falling to an Auburn duo in a close affair.
Paving their way from the initial round of 32 to the semifinal round with three straight wins, including an upset of the #3 seed in the quarters, Perper and Tran were unable to advance any further as the duo, a 5-8 seed, dropped their last match against second-seeded Jackie Kasler and Jen Pfeifler of Auburn after giving up a 6-1 lead in a tight 9-7 decision Sunday.
"Alexandra and Naomi had a great run. They played a high level for several matches. They started out today's match on fire, but eventually let nerves get the better of them and unfortunately could not finish the job," said head coach Daryl Greenan. "It was exciting to see them play so well and I believe their performance was a boost for our whole team."
Following an upcoming off week, the Lady Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday, November 9, as the team travels to Los Angeles, Calif., for the Jack Kramer Invitiational. Updates On MSU women's tennis will be available through hailstate.com.
