TULSA, Okla. - Mississippi State men's tennis concluded qualifying play at the ITA All-American Wednesday, falling just short of advancing a singles and doubles entry to the main bracket.
Freshman Pedro Dumont, only needing a win to advance to main draw play, dropped his match to 87th-ranked and 25th-seeded Rok Bonin of Minnesota 6-1, 6-3.
In doubles action, MSU's No. 41 tandem of Jordan Angus and Malte Stropp defeated Middle Tennessee's Ben Davis and Christopher Lang in the their first match of the day 8-3. With a chance to earn a spot in main draw play, Stropp and Angus battled hard, but fell just short of victory, dropping their match to Texas' Sudanwa Sitaram and Daniel Whitehead 8-6.
Main draw action will begin Thursday, Oct. 4. James Chaudry and Stropp will represent the Bulldogs in singles play and will each need six victories to win the bracket. Chaudry is scheduled for an 8 a.m. start, facing North Carolina's 107th-ranked Esben Hess-Olesen, who reached the main draw from qualifying play. Stropp, who is to start at 9 a.m., will battle 13th-ranked and 11th-seeded Kyle McMorrow of Washington.
