TULSA, Okla. - In his first action at the ITA All-American Championships, Mississippi State's Pedro Dumont found victory in the first round of qualifying play, defeating Guillermo Nicols of Wichita State 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
The Brazil native bounced back from a tough loss in the second set to cruise to victory in the third and advance to tomorrow's second round.
Dumont will face 14th seed Martin Bots of Washington in second-round action. The freshman will have to win three matches to advance out of the four-round qualifying bracket and into the main draw.
In the other singles match, freshman Romain Bogaerts dropped a tough decision to Boise State's Andrew Bettles, losing in straight sets 7-5, 6-2.
Main draw play is set to begin Thursday, Oct. 4. Stropp and Chaudry received selections into the bracket and will be joined by anyone to advance out of the qualifying round.
