Bulldogs Push Forward on Day One of NCAA East Preliminary
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Thursday was the first step to Mississippi State reaching its goal of extending the track and field season. As action wrapped, the Bulldogs were on their way with seven athletes qualifying for Friday's quarterfinals.
First to qualify were Emanuel Mayers and Nathan Arnett who took their turn in the preliminaries of the 400-meter hurdles. Mayers (50.82) posted the fourth best time of the day to punch his ticket Friday, while Arnett qualified with his 11th place time of 51.26.
Following right in the footsteps of Mayers and Arnett was D'Angelo Cherry. Posting a time of 10.52, Cherry finished 20th in the 100-meter dash preliminaries and qualified for Friday's action.
Rounding out the Bulldog qualifiers was a trio of 400-meter dash athletes. Competing in three different heats, Daundre Barnaby (46.11), Tavaris Tate (46.54) and James Harris (46.59) all earned tickets for Friday's quarterfinals as they finished second, eighth and 11th respectively.
A pair of Maroon and White long jumpers also competed on Thursday, as Jarrett Samuels (24-3) and Trevarus Christian (23-8.75) finished 18th and 24th respectively to finish just outside of the NCAA Championship qualifiers.
Jody-Ann Muir was the lone Lady Bulldog qualifier on Thursday. Posting the fourth best time, Muir ran 52.74 to secure a place in the quarterfinals on Friday.
Barely missing out on qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships was Rochelle Farquharson, who jumped 19-10.75 to finish 20th in the long jump.
