STARKVILLE, Miss. - Ranked as high as fifth nationally in the preseason collegiate polls, Mississippi State raises the curtains on its 2013 baseball edition this weekend when the Bulldogs take on the University of Portland Pilots in a four-game series at Dudy Noble Field. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.

Stadium gates and ticket windows open two hours prior to the scheduled game time. General admission tickets cost $5 and are good for entrance to open seating in Dudy Noble Field's grandstand chair back sections during all non-conference games in 2013.

The Bulldogs and the Pilots are set for a Saturday single game at 2 p.m. and a series-ending doubleheader Sunday 1 p.m. (Saturday and Sunday time changes were announced Thursday).

Live audio and multi-camera HD video streaming for all four MSU-UP games will be available online to HailStateTV subscribers (http://www.hailstate.com/hstvlive).

The radio broadcasts of all four games will be heard throughout the Golden Triangle on opening weekend. West Point's WKBB-FM (100.9) will carry the Friday opener and the first game of the Saturday twinbill while Columbus' WNMQ-FM (103.1) will carry Saturday's second game and the Sunday series finale. Jim Ellis, entering his 35th season "Voice of the Bulldogs", will team with Bart Gregory for the call of the action on most MSU baseball radio broadcasts. The 40-game MSU Baseball Radio Network broadcast schedule begins Feb. 22 with the MSU-Purdue game on opening day of the Diamond Classic presented by Polk's Meat Products.

Sophomore lefty Jacob Lindgren (Bay St. Louis, Miss.) will make his third career start in his seasonal debut Friday, working opposite UP senior right-handed starter Matt McCallister. A pair of right-handers, junior Evan Mitchell (Marietta, Ga.) and senior Kendall Graveman (Alexander City, Ala.), has been tabbed for Saturday starts with no decision yet on State's Sunday's starting pitcher.

The trip to Starkville marks the first baseball competition at an SEC school for West Coast Conference member Portland. Coach Chris Sperry's Pilots return 24 lettermen and the bulk of the starters from last year's 27-25 club that finished sixth in the WCC.

Friday's game is the earliest season-opener for Mississippi State baseball since launching the 1999 campaign on Feb. 14 against UNC-Charlotte. State is scheduled to play its first 19 games and 23 of its first 24 at Dudy Noble Field, all part of a school-record 37 home games.

Bulldog fans could be treated to a milestone win for MSU baseball during the opening weekend series. State enters the four-game set with 998 wins in 46 seasons of games played at the current site of Dudy Noble Field. Only two other SEC schools, Alabama and Auburn, have won 1,000 games at their current baseball facility.
